The International Mission Board encourages Southern Baptists to give through the Cooperative Program and the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for international missions through their local churches. We do, however, offer online giving options to individuals to support strategic priority needs. We also present information about making planned gifts.

Europe Challenge:
Strategic Priority Needs

Center for Leadership and Academics
The Center for Leadership and Academics (CLA) is formally partnered with the local university and schools to assist with the national education reforms. In addition to working with students on campus, we have regular outreach events that must be kept separate from our official education reform programs. These events include: ESL classes and camps, seminars by volunteer groups, coffee houses, Table of Friends discussion groups, teacher trainings, etc. Rental of facilities accessable to students is strategic since their homes are unavailable or not conducive to our programing. Event supplies and training materials are important in this strategy. 64304-240-062-2006

Coffee House Encounters
Many of our personnel are often making relationships in coffee houses that further the Gospel and use these places as a base of ministry. God has opened the doors for them to be incarnational in these coffee houses, but not have us tied up in the renting or running of these coffee houses. However, the personal expense for buying the coffee in Western Europe has had to come out of their pockets and has sometimes created a difficult choice of ministry expenses impending on personal finance. In order to assist in encouraging these relational opportunities, funds are needed to pay for the coffee of seekers, new believers and the workers who are ministering to them. 62201-240-002-2007

Malta Bibles
Many towns and villages in Malta are being saturated in strategic prayer as partners adopt localities for prayer and ministry through the Village Project. Team Malta is seeing God open doors in these areas and people are accepting Jesus as their Savior and Lord. As follow up is done, small groups are formed, and special ministry events are held in certain areas with the help of team members, local believers, and short-term volunteers, there will be an additional need for New Testaments and Bibles. Team Malta is requesting 1,000 for the purchase of Scriptures in the Maltese language. 62201-240-027-2006

Marketplace NT Project
The Lisbon, Portugal cluster requests 15,000 in Bible funds for a special edition of a contemporary translation of the New Testament aimed at sowing God’s Word abundantly among urban Portuguese. Key Elements Developed and produced in partnership with the Portuguese Bible Society, this special edition would include up to 30 full-color pages of articles and helps, ranging from Bible background, FAQ’s, and interesting but little-known facts about the Bible to articles on the Bible and family life, the Bible and the marketplace and the Bible and personal spirituality. The three key elements of this introductory material will be: 1) a clear presentation of the Gospel targeting post-modern, urban Europeans, 2) a section on small-group spiritual community, with tips on studying the Bible with a group of friends, 3) opportunities for making contact with IMB representatives and partners (through telephone, email, web page, etc.) for follow-up and integration into church-planting efforts. Distribution Strategy The funds requested will provide approximately 7500 of these special edition New Testaments to be distributed in various strategic contexts: during the Christmas season, including Businesses and Residences in the Parque das Nações area of Lisbon where we are involved in a church-planting effort in businesses where we are beginning a corporate chaplain strategy through the relational networks of current members of our house churches and other new areas and neighborhoods where we are working. In Porto, to be used by the new team there in new areas they are targeting for church plants. 62201-240-019-2005

Russian Sign Language Bible Translation Project
The heart language of the Deaf is sign language. The Deaf are usually very fluent in sign. They use this language to sing, worship, teach, and converse. The Deaf in ERF have great difficulty with reading. They learn best and retain information if it is communicated in their heart language. In order to get God's word into the hearts and hands of the Deaf on a wide scale it is imperative that we do so through video and or CD. We have the means for videotaping the scriptures into sign language and then transferring them to CD and or videotape. A minimum of 30 scripture stories will be put on CD and video for mass distribution of Gods word. 64307-463-120-2005
