The International Mission Board encourages Southern Baptists to give through the Cooperative Program and the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for international missions through their local churches. We do, however, offer online giving options to individuals to support strategic priority needs. We also present information about making planned gifts.

Lottie Moon Challenge:
Strategic Priority Needs

345 Unengaged Unreached People Groups of South Asia
In India alone there are 325 Unengaged UPGs, which have a population over 100,000 and an additional 181 Unengaged UPGs which have a population under 100,000. For the fulfillment of Matthew 24:14 to take place, all of the unreached peoples must not only hear the gospel but also respond if the kingdom of God is to be established in every nation, tribe, people and tongue (Revelation 7:9-10). The strategy we are using has been developed to reach multiple UPGs without ongoing dependence on our personnel to reach the multitudes. Thus, it is based on training national believers who are already working among Unengaged UPGs by equipping them to effectively multiply “fishers of men” among their unreached peoples. The emphasis, therefore, is not on recruiting 500 IMB personnel but lies within training others to be trainers of trainers based on II Timothy 2:2. We are constantly asking ourselves what is it going to take to see God’s vision fulfilled in South Asia. The answer we have found rests in acting as facilitators and mentors to help others become disciple makers not convert makers. One recognizes that if the job is to be accomplished, we must multiply ourselves in others (primarily national lay people); otherwise we will wear ourselves out without getting the job done (Exodus 18:18). Our strategy is based on hitting as many Unengaged UPGs as possible at one time by strategically setting up training zones in key areas and bringing lay people in for training. As we carefully select these zones we try to ensure the zones are able to multiply themselves out through church planting movement principles. In this way, the whole area will be saturated by the “knowledge of God” as these disciple makers multiple disciples in others. 71201-240-027-2007

A Multiple UPG CPM Initiative
On December 26, 2004 a tsunami struck Asia killing 250,000 people. The catastrophic event though opened doors for the gospel in strongholds such as Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Maldives and Thailand. The greater disaster in India was the 240,000 people dying every week never having heard the hope of salvation we have in Jesus Christ. In January 2005 upon entering into India a comprehensive church planting movement strategy was developed called Tree of Life designed to "make disciples" moving Christians progressively forward from being believers to faithful witnesses to disciples to disciple-makers to church planters to church planting facilitators to apostles- cross cultural church planting facilitators. During a two and a half year period this training program had tremendous results with 12,119 new believers, 3,671 baptisms, 1376 house fellowships started and 97 people groups engaged. Our national partners then requested for the program to be expanded across India and eventually into Pakistan and Bangladesh as well. After the closure of the tsunami work at the end of 2007, the strategy coordinator for this program was assigned to the East Division where the program in 5 months resulted in 6,768 new believers, 2,262 baptized and 835 house fellowships being started. Invitations now exist to open work in Nepal and Bhutan which would have Tree of Life impacting 5 countries in the upcoming year (India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal and Bhutan). This program has 10 levels of training developed to develop "master trainers" from nationals trained using reproducible oral methods such as stories, word pictures, and scripture memorization. The program also has a strong accountability structure which counts only what can be measured by its reporting forms which are tied to specific addresses and person(s) which can be easily verified. This program does not pay salaries but does pay for training expenses. From each monthly statewide training, district trainers are trained who upon returning home contact trainings with their national leaders in each of their districts. For example, in a training session in the capital of Orissa we train 64 district level trainers for one day who then return 2 by 2 to their 32 districts and conduct trainings at their district levels. The total cost of training at the district level is about 700 to 800 Rupees ( 20 US) per month. This gives us maximum coverage of people being discipled at minimum costs. Would you like to be a part of seeing thousands trained to multiply disciples throughout the nations, tribes, people and tongues so Jesus can return as King of Kings and Lord of lords (Matthew 24:14, Matthew 28:19-20, Revelation 7:9-10, Revelation 19:16) then please join us by supporting the Tree of Life program in South Asia? 71201-240-104-2006

Amhara Discipleship Project
Our objective is to reach the illiterate (majority) Amhara people of Ethiopia with the Bible and gospel, using a method they can understand, Bible stories. The project involves two organizations using cassette distribution and radio broadcasts of Bible stories for evangelism and discipleship. In conjunction with this, other strategies include training leaders, setting-up storying groups and forming house churches, which will also enable follow-up of the radio broadcasts. Our goal is to establish a church planting movement among the Amhara. Total cost for this 5 year project is 323,700 of which 161,850 is needed for our part of the partnership. First year: radio time for two 30 minute programs/week and 800 cassettes. Each year radio time and cassette production increase. Fifth year: Seven 30 minute programs/week and 4800 tapes. 82420-240-073-2005

Bibles for PSW
Bibles for the peoples of the Persian Speaking World are in high demand. We have committed with our partners to supply large quantites of scripture in various forms to the emerging churches in the PSW. Years of development and prayer have seen a diverse and capable distribution network arise that has demonstrated its ability to place scripture where it is wanted and needed. People and churches giving to the fullest extent God impresses upon them will be required for us to meet the overwhelming demand for God's word in this incredibly closed area of the world. Therefore, partial gifts are not only welcome but expected. Gifts as small as 5 will place a Bible in the hands of a Persian believer. Gifts of the entire project will change a nation. 72401-469-036-2004

The Center for Leadership and Academics (CLA) is formally partnered with the local university and schools to assist with the national education reforms. In addition to working with students on campus, we have regular outreach events that must be kept separate from our official education reform programs. These events include: ESL classes and camps, seminars by volunteer groups, coffee houses, Table of Friends discussion groups, teacher trainings, etc. Rental of facilities accessable to students is strategic since their homes are unavailable or not conducive to our programing. Event supplies and training materials are important in this strategy. 64304-240-062-2006

Church-Planting Movement Training Workshops
South Asia is home to more unreached people groups than all the rest of the world combined! Yet through church-planting movements, we are seeing entire people groups ushered into God’s kingdom with multiplying new communities of faith. Church-planting movement training is needed all over South Asia if we are to multiply harvesters in this region of the world. At present, we do not have the funds needed to provide all of the training that is being requested. 71201-240-012-2007

Coffee House Encounters
Many of our personnel are often making relationships in coffee houses that further the Gospel and use these places as a base of ministry. God has opened the doors for them to be incarnational in these coffee houses, but not have us tied up in the renting or running of these coffee houses. However, the personal expense for buying the coffee in Western Europe has had to come out of their pockets and has sometimes created a difficult choice of ministry expenses impending on personal finance. In order to assist in encouraging these relational opportunities, funds are needed to pay for the coffee of seekers, new believers and the workers who are ministering to them. 62201-240-002-2007

Cool Mountain Radio
Funding is needed for a daily evangelistic Christian radio broadcast in a upg dialect. This upg lives primarily in autonomous districts in a hard to reach section of the country. A radio broadcast in this dialect would be easily understood by speakers of 4 of the 5 major sects of this people group, with the potential to reach more than 2.5 million people in their heart language -- the vast majority of whom cannot be considered literate in any other language and have only slight oral comprehension of national language. The program will be Biblically based, with an interactive story telling format that concludes with a session of questions and answers. UPG testimonies and praise music will be played, and church will be modeled on the air. This is a wonderful opportunity to fund a strategic program with the possiblility to directly impact more than 2.5 million of people who have had no previous exposure to the Gospel of Christ. 74402-243-102-2006

Gutenburg II
Gutenberg II is a unique, innovative and groundbreaking project, bringing key Bible characters to life. Seventeen Bible characters in all, from Adam to Abraham, David and key prophets, as well as the Gospel story and Acts will all come to life in these character driven dramas. The GII stories are entertaining, appealing and engaging as standalone products. They are designed to address the major bridges and barriers of our target audience. More importantly, the stories are also linked through a gentle weaving of major Biblical themes that communicate God’s greater purpose of redemption through Jesus Christ. The Gutenberg printing press revolutionized the world by making the Bible available to all who could read. Gutenberg II will take the printed Bible stories and develop them for television for people who do not read and are oral communicators. This video series is written and produced in Arabic. It will be dubbed into many other languages and dialects, giving people their first and maybe only opportunity to hear the life changing message of the Bible. Join us as we work to bring the stories of God’s love to millions who have never heard in a way that they can see, hear, understand and call their own. 82420-243-355-2001

La Esperanza (The Hope) in Uruguayan Sign Language
The Deaf of Uruguay number 33,000 and are an unreached people group. Only .01% are saved. Most of the Deaf do not read and have no church back ground. They do not know what the Bible is or who God and Jesus are. The Lord is opening doors to the Deaf throughout Uruguay and there is a real hunger to know the Lord. Our problem is that there are very few materials to aid us in reaching and teaching the Deaf. They are visual learners and everything we do must be done in this method. For example we use pictures, drama, Bible stories and application is done in Uruguayan Sign Language to reach the Deaf for Christ. We have the opportunity to translate The Hope (La Esperanza) into Uruguayan Sign Language. This DVD is an overview of the Bible from creation to the resurrection of Christ. Having this material translated into Uruguayan Sign Language would be a very effective tool to evangelize and teach the Deaf throughout all of Uruguay. 97111-240-007-2007

MegaVoices - Mexico
In the Mexico Indigenous fields there are some 300 indigenous dialects with over 2/3s of them with no access to even the New Testament. Most of the indigenous peoples in Mexico are oral communicators and a key part of our strategy to reach these people groups has been through OneStory projects to be able to get stories done in the dialects of the people. The use of Megavoice is being used in two different ways. First, our missionaries and national missionaries are using the simplified Spanish version to help the bilingual mother tongue story crafters learn the stories and then to record the stories in their own languages. The second phase of the use of Megavoices is where we are very excited. When our stories are in a finished and consultant checked form, they will be put on the Megavoices and provided for those who are using the stories for church planting. The Megavoice will provide an unchangeable version of the story so that when there are questions Scriptural integrity, there is a standard they can go back to. Our initial purchase will be for 30 units where we will have the simplified Spanish Scripture on it. In 6 months we will be ready for distribution of an additional 100 units with the Bible stories included. 93306-240-001-2008

Funds are needed to help two local Christian believers in an unreached minority group that have already shown great aptitude in translating Bible stories. These two believers will create Chronological Bible storying materials and radio broadcasts to enable the more than 1 million people in this minority group to be able to hear the gospel in their heart language for the first time. Ninety percent of this minority group live in rural areas and they are responsive to the Gospel, but most of them are illiterate, so these kinds of media in their heart language are desperately needed as quickly as possible. 74402-463-067-2008

N Djamena Culture Center for Evangelism and Discipleship
N Djamena is a mini gateway city to the unreached peoples of Chad. There are over 120 people groups, most of which are unreached. There must be a city strategy along with ongoing village strategies to see the C. Arabs and other PG`s reached. The center is a neutral place where students and professionals can come to study books and read local newspapers available in the library. There is no other place like this in the Muslim side of town. Through the library, English and French classes, games and movies, we are able to come in contact with M`s from every people in Chad. After having made contact with an M from the ATI area we were able to visit that town for the first time with someone who was from there. Our welcome was wonderful because we came with one of their own. Now there is a medical project that is prospering. Through English classes and clubs we chronologically go through Bible stories to teach the highest level of English. We have a captive audience of Muslims representing almost all of the UPG`s gathering for 6-8 months, to study the Word. The center serves as our platform base office as well as a literature and tape distribution place for GCC partners. We are able to do tape duplicating and distribution, and are also able to disciple and mentor new MBB`s in Christian work ethic by working part time at the center. We are also able to teach some basic computer skills. Students become well equiped spiritually and with skills to be valuable contributors to their community. The center is also a place where short term teams can have an immediate impact on the work, doing seminars on specific fields, doing drama, etc. That is sowing the Word. The center is well respected in the Muslim community during it`s 47+ years of operations. Operation GO Mexico: Funding for Gospels in Emergencies
Operation GO Mexico is a Gospel Saturation project whose goal is to place the Gospel of John or Matthew in every household in Mexico using U.S. volunteer teams. The volunteer team members work in strategic locations selected by IMB church planters, and distribute Gospels as a free gift to each household, in an effort to evangelize persons, seek men of peace, and seek homes where Bible studies may be held which would develop into house churches, thus enhancing a Church Planting Movement. The target people are the 100 million Hispanic speakers of Mexico. Around 2000, the MAC Regional Leadership Team designated Gospel Saturation as a method by which volunteer teams can facilitate the lost coming to saving faith in Jesus Christ by beginning and nurturing Church Planting Movements among all peoples. During the current period of freedom to share the Gospel in Mexico unhindered, a great opportunity exists to pierce the spiritual darkness and syncretistic belief system of Mexico, by placing the light of the written Gospel in each household. Since 2001, over 300 GO Volunteer Teams have placed over one million Gospels in Mexican homes, and around 10,000 homes have requested Bible studies. In the past, volunteer teams have paid for the Gospels as part of the project expense. But in these economic times, some teams need help with paying for the Gospels. About 60 projects are planned for each year, and most projects average $800 for the cost of Gospels. 93306-463-003-2008

Russian Sign Language Bible Translation Project
The heart language of the Deaf is sign language. The Deaf are usually very fluent in sign. They use this language to sing, worship, teach, and converse. The Deaf in ERF have great difficulty with reading. They learn best and retain information if it is communicated in their heart language.
